Whatsapp is now letting users react to messages with emojis, like users can do already on other Meta-owned social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram.

In an announcement on its blog, Whatsapp said: “We’re excited to share that emoji reactions are now available on the latest version of the app.

“Reactions are fun, fast, and they reduce overload in groups too. We’ll continue improving them by adding an even broader range of expressions in the future.”

How to react on Whatsapp

Reacting to a message on Whatsapp is similar to reacting on Facebook messenger.

Simply press and hold the message you want to react to and six emojis will come up: the thumbs up, the red heart, the crying laughing face, the sad face, and the praying/thank you emoji.

Select the emoji you want and it will appear on the message.

New Whatsapp updates

In addition to the new emoji reaction feature, Whatsapp now allows users to send files of up to 2GB in size that are protected by end-to-end encryption. The previous limit was 100MB.

Whatsapp recommends using WiFi when sending large files, and the app will display a counter when uploading or downloading so you know who long it will take.

Whatsapp is also slowly rolling out the ability to add up to 512 people to a group. In the announcement, Whatsapp said: “Building private, safe, and secure communities takes work and we think this series of improvements will help people and groups stay close to one another.”

Our goal is to create a safe and engaging place for users to connect over interests and passions. In order to improve our community experience, we are temporarily suspending article commenting
