The MCU timeline is starting to get confusing. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is basically set in the past (just months after the first film). Spider-Man: Homecoming comes directly after Captain America: Civil War.
So where will the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 fit into all this?
Writer/director James Gunn has confirmed that the film will be set after Avengers: Infinity War and its 2019 sequel.
No. Vol. 3 will take place AFTER Avengers 3 & 4. https://t.co/5QCiH5fU55- James Gunn (@JamesGunn) May 2, 2017
We already know that Infinity War happens four years after Guardians 2, so that means that we won't be shown what the team was up to between those movies in Guardians 3.
At least four years will have elapsed between the second and third Guardians movies, if not more.
How much will Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot's relationship have evolved in the meantime? How big will Groot have grown? Guardians of the Galaxy 3 doesn't even have a release date yet, so we have plenty of time to wonder.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is out now in the UK and arrives in the US on May 5.
