Residents in a ‘quiet’ residential street in Birmingham had their lives disrupted when some ‘130 kids’ were said to have crammed into a small two-bedroom rental home. The youngsters spilled out into the street in Westmead Crescent in the Pype Hayes area of Erdington and were said to have been ‘doing balloons with girls running around’ and music played.

The party began last Friday night, November 22 and lasted well into the early hours of Saturday, November 23. The two-bed rental is available on Airbnb, booking.com and Birmingham Hotels, with Airbnb saying ‘it wasn’t booked through us’.

Residents said there were ‘large groups of girls and taxis everywhere’ with ‘hoards of people, it looked like people leaving a concert or something’. Police were called to the incident, with police cars and vans seen in the road. But the force said ‘no criminal offences were disclosed’.

A neighbour who saw the incident unfold told BirminghamLive: “It’s a two-bedroom property, a small house. When the landlady went inside she could not move.

“There were people standing squashed in the lounge and up the stairs. There were girls running around our little Crescent. People were parking on neighbours’ lawns, and they were doing those balloon gas things. It was totally chaotic.

“When they eventually managed to get them out it was counted as 130 kids in the house altogether. This finally ended at 4.15am.“

BirminghamLive readers reacted to the incident with one saying it reminded her of a similar party in Kingstanding. Pat Franks said: “We had exactly the same happen next door to us when we lived in Kingstanding. New Year’s Eve 2023. It was dreadful.

“Lot of people called police but they did not come. Neighbours cars got damaged. There was small explosion in oven apparently too.

“Managed to get in touch with owner who arrived about 6am. Got them all out - 80 to 100 of them.

“If we hadn’t been able to get owner and he hadn’t come out when he did, the house would have exploded and took ours with it. £5,000-worth of damage they had caused to. It was frightening. We have since moved away.”

Sandra McQuaid said: “Where were all the parents of these 130 kids???” Dave Crow said: “Then balloons are so dangerous. Hope the police were armed.”

While Akhil Grover quipped: “All the road men at one place. Means less crime on the streets. Isn't that a good ting?” And Joseph Bird simply said: “This generation.”

Airbnb said it had ‘no bookings’ through its platform for the address on Friday, November 22. A spokeswoman added: “Parties are banned on Airbnb, and we have seen a 75 per cent drop in the number of party reports in the UK since we introduced this ban.”

BirminghamLive attempted to contact the host, but she declined to respond to our message. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to a report of a disturbance in Westmead Crescent, Birmingham, shortly before 11.30pm on 22 November. Officers attended, but no criminal offences were disclosed.”
