Whirlpool Spotted in Southwest Utah Amid Flash Floods

A whirlpool formed on a street in Springdale, Utah, as the region was hit by flash flooding on June 29.

Among the areas impacted worst was Zion National Park, which was forced to close.

This footage by Scott Williams shows muddy water swirling rapidly on the Mount Carmel Highway.

“This was just moments after the first 30 min wave of rain fell and all the water was starting to fill the low spot in town,” Williams said, adding that the whirlpool was caused by an overburdened drain. Credit: Scott Williams via Storyful
