Whirlwind Causes Delays at Denver International Airport

A ‘gustnado’ whirlwind was spotted swirling near the tarmac outside Denver International Airport (DIA) on April 27, causing a ground stop and delay in flights.

This video, taken by Matthew Lanclos, shows the whirlwind form near the airport and pick up debris along the way.

The National Weather Service reported that “considerable blowing dust” was expected due to a severe thunderstorm in the area, and cautioned travelers to be alert for rapidly changing visibility.
