Anthony Murray is set to be unveiled as Whitehaven's new head coach. Rugby League Live understands the former Workington Town boss will head across Cumbria to take control of the club following their relegation from the Championship.

Murray, who has carved out an impressive reputation in the lower leagues, has spent the last two seasons at Workington Town and has previously coached Barrow Raiders, North Wales Crusaders and the All Golds.

The 47-year-old was expected to take up a deal at Keighley Cougars next season, but it's believed that the League 1 promotion hopefuls have backed out of that agreement and are instead set to give the job to Jake Webster.

As a result, Murray is now set to join Whitehaven, who are on the lookout for a permanent head coach after the departure of Jonty Gorley who, ironically, is heading the other way to Workington next year.

Murray has impressed throughout his coaching career. With North Wales, he guided them to consecutive third-place finishes in 2021 and 2022 and was named coach of the year by his peers in the first of those two seasons.

Kyle Amor steered the ship for Whitehaven at the end of the season after answering an SOS call, but he is set to step away now the season has come to a close, with the former St Helens star having a prominent role in the broadcast side of the game.

Haven were relegated from the Championship after finishing 13th, missing out on a right to battle for safety due to an inferior points difference to Swinton Lions, who will play the winners of Keighley and Hunslet next week to determine who will play in the second tier.
