Eurovision has been a big deal since it began in 1956, with viewers across Europe coming together to sing, laugh and play ridiculous drinking games.

This year’s Song Contest was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but fear not, because you can get your fill of Eurovision when Will Ferrell’s latest movie arrives on Netflix.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga sees Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams play Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir, a duo given the opportunity of a lifetime to represent Iceland at the song contest.

The aspiring musicians battle it out to win Eurovision, as the farcical movie moves between friendship, betrayal, and some banging parody tunes.

When is Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga released?

Along with the competition it’s inspired by, the release of the movie was initially postponed due to the current pandemic.

However, viewers so not have to wait too much longer, as the film will be coming to Netflix on Friday, June 26.

Netflix has released a track from the movie, titled Volcano Man, which sees Ferrell and McAdams decked out in silver, against a backdrop of Nordic countryside, full of volcanoes, waterfalls and snow.

In a perfect Eurovision parody, the song contains references to highland fjords, a melting heart, and mountain peaks

Who is in the cast?

There’s a star-studded cast alongside the leading couple - here’s who appears in the movie.

Will Ferrell - Lars Erickssong

Ferrell not only plays leading man Lars, but has also co-written the film with the former head writer of Saturday Night Live, Andrew Steele.

A comedy duo competing for fame and glory is something Ferrell has done before (see Blades of Glory), so we’re sure he’ll pull this off in style.

The actor was also spotted at Eurovision’s 2018 grand final in Lisbon doing some research for his part.

Rachel McAdams - Sigrit Ericksdottir

An often underrated comedy actress, Mean Girls favourite McAdams will be playing Ferrell’s other half, Sigrit.

The film is set in 1972 which we can see from McAdams’ very 70s floaty blue hippy dress in the already released music video for the film.

Pierce Brosnan - Erick Erickssong

Yes, that’s right. James Bond himself, Pierce Brosnan, was announced as a cast member earlier this year.

Brosnan will appear as Erick Erickssong Lars’ father - despite only being 14 years older than Ferrell in real life - and “the most handsome man in Iceland”. Sounds about right.

Fans will remember Brosnan’s - well, less than impressive - singing skills in the Mamma Mia movies, and it's unclear how much singing Erick Erickssong will do in this movie.

Demi Lovato - Katiana

Pop sensation Demi Lovato will be playing Katiana, one of the best and most angelic singers in all of Iceland.

She’ll have a few Eurovision bangers during the movie - we already know she’ll be belting out a track called In The Mirror.

Dan Stevens - Alexander Lemtov

Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens will play the role of Alexander Lemtov, the Icelandic team’s direct competition.

Representing Russia in the song contest, Stevens will most likely be getting in the way of Lars and Sigrit’s Eurovision dreams with what looks like an extremely camp song surrounded by topless hunky men. Very Eurovision.

Graham Norton - himself

No Eurovision movie would be complete without a cameo from the song contest host himself, Graham Norton.

We’re sure the legendary TV host will have a whole lot of quick quips and sarcastic comments that will make viewers feel like they’re watching the real deal.

Loreen won Eurovision for Sweden in 2012 with her song Euphoria, marking the sixth win for Sweden in the contest.

John Lundvik

On top of its A-list cast, Eurovision Song Contest features a range of real-life Eurovision performers in cameo roles.

Sweden's John Ludvik, who reached the top 5 in 2019's contest, makes an appearance in the film. The singer currently composes music for the TV show Empire.

Jamala

Ukranian star Jamala won Eurovision in 2016 with her ballad 1944. In the film, Jamala is seen singing ABBA's song Waterloo, which famously launched the band to international fame in 1974.
