Fondly dubbed "X-Men meets The Royal Tenenbaums," The Umbrella Academy garnered a cult following for its debut series on Netflix.

Based on the comics by Gerard Way - former lead singer of My Chemical Romance - the unconventional story followed a group of siblings (with superpowers, naturally) as they attempted to thwart an impending apocolypse.

Series One ended on a major cliffhanger (we won't reveal any spoilers, don't worry) so fans have been itching to sink their teeth into the next instalment of the show.

And their wait is nearly over, as Series Two is set to drop on Netflix today, 31st July.

Most of the cast seem to be returning, so we've put together this cast list just in time to whet your appetite.

Who's in The Umbrella Academy?

Ellen Page

Ellen Page (of notorious Juno fame, but who has since had roles in the X-Men films, Inception, and Whip It) will return as the mysterious Vanya. In an interview with Den of Geek, she explained how excited she was to be returning to the character: "For me it’s gonna be so interesting to explore Vanya. It’s like Vanya 2.0, whether what direction I’m playing in, for Vanya if this is what is happening. Obviously less repressed and what does that mean in the good ways and bad kinda thing." Without giving too much away, we will be equally fascinated to see where Vanya ends up after the cilffhanger finale of last series.

Robert Sheehan

A fan favourite since his Misfits days, Robert Sheehan will also be reprising his role as the tortured but oddly charming Klaus. Asked what he hopes the next series will bring for Klaus, Sheehan explained that one of his favourite things about the character is that "he’s a butterfly that refuses to leave the cocoon, or he keeps going back into it. I’d love to see Klaus reformed as something else, different completely. Hopefully, if the murmurings are to be believed, that’s kind of where we’re headed. I think he’s in a constant state of change and that would bring much excitement for me."

Tom Hopper

(Netflix)

Showrunner Steve Blackman wanted Tom Hopper to join the cast from the very beginning, because he "had that sort of boyish innocence from Game of Thrones." Hopper appeared in that series as Dickon Tarly, but here he plays Luther Hargreeves - an extremely large man who, as you might guess, is also extremely strong. Hopper has also spoken of his soft spot for Luther: "What I love about Luther so much is that he’s always trying to do the right thing but then it backfires on him. He’s got this weight on his shoulders of being the leader and trying to steer these guys in the right direction and that’s no easy feat with these characters around him, these siblings that are quite tough to handle most of the time."

Emmy Raver-Lampman

Emmy Raver-Lampman will be back as Allison, who she thinks is "is really nurturing and motherly. And I think maybe gets a kick out of watching her brothers spin out of control. I really got a kick out of playing that." As the only sister with known powers growing up (she is able to control people's minds) Allison occupies a very interesting position within the family, which will be worth keeping an eye out for next series. It also looks as though she's about to get involved with the civil rights movement, which should add another fascinating dimension to her storyline.

David Castañeda

Although you might hardly recognise him due to a drastic change in hairstyle, David Castañeda will also be reprising his role as Diego Hargreeves, the hard-fighting brother with a penchant for throwing objects at people from mid-air. David has also revealed his soft spot for his character, who looks like he will be joined by a new companion next series: "Even though he tries to hide it, (Diego) is very much connected to all of his siblings and he really cares for them. Even though he might look down at them from the exterior surface."

Aidan Gallagher

The youngest cast member by a fair few years, Aidan Gallagher will similarly return as the only sibling with no name: Number Five. No doubt Steve Blackman will be as relieved to have him back as he was when he first cast the old-souled sixteen-year-old: "Aidan Gallagher was the tricky one because I had seen 300 boys by that point and I thought no one can play a 58 year old man in this kid’s body until Aidan came around and he just said like, 'I’ll kill for this part.'"

Justin H. Min

It also looks like the character of Ben will be returning this series, although we're still not sure whether there's any chance that he might pop back over to the land of the living. Only time will tell.

Yusuf Gatewood, Ritu Arya and Marin Ireland

Three fresh faces will also be joining the cast for this series.

Gatewood will feature as "Raymond," who is described as a man “with the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone. He is warm, dedicated and has the innate ability to disarm you with a look.”

Arya, who appeared in sci-fi favourites Humans and Doctor Who, will star as Lila. She is described as “a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires," so it sounds like she'll fit right in with this show.

And last but not least, Ireland will play Sissy: “a fearless, no-nonsense Texas mom who married young for all the wrong reasons.”

The Umbrella Academy 2 will be streaming on Netflix from July 31.
