Blackpool Tower will shine with a bright white colour tonight to raise awareness for International Peace Day 2024.

The iconic landmark will light up in support of the awareness day and a number of activities will take place across the area. Delivered by the Youth Provision Partnership, as well as a range of other organisations across the Fylde Coast, activities and events have been underway in the name of Peace Day.

Blackpool Libraries took part in these activities and saw practical support themes developed, including advice on looking after your mental health, yoga, colouring-in and dedicated Bounce and rhyme sessions. A dedicated 'Peace Walk' also took place, organised by the Princes Trust.

A group walked from South Shore to the Blackpool Tower wearing International Peace Day t-shirts, with branding developed by local young people. A 'Peace Garden' was also created in the Talbot and Brunswick space where people can reflect and enjoy a quiet moment all year round.

The space will also evolve in years to come as Blackpool Park Rangers donated tree seeds for the garden.

Councillor Kath Benson, Cabinet Member for Young People and Aspiration for Blackpool Council said: "How fantastic it is to see the efforts that have been put on to support International Peace Day here in Blackpool and a really great turn out for those taking part in the wellbeing walk. It is really inspiring to see young residents presenting their passion and dedication, whilst helping to bring together a range of agencies, organisations and community groups of all ages, to promote peace within our Blackpool community.

"The new addition of the Brunswick Community Garden ‘Peace Garden’ is wonderful green space for Blackpool, and we hope it is used for years to come for residents to reflect and enjoy being outside, not just on International Peace Day – but all year round."
