Liverpool briefly thought they were trailing in the opening minutes of the Premier League clash against Bournemouth. The Reds were facing the Cherries at Anfield looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after last week's defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot's side went into the game on the back of a victory over AC Milan in the opening fixture of the Champions League in midweek. The early minutes of the game against Bournemouth saw the visitors believe they had taken the lead.

Antoine Semeyno provided the finish in front of the Kop in the fourth minute, with the assistant referee initially keeping the flag down before the goal was checked by VAR. Following a lengthy check by the video assistant referee, the goal was ruled out for offside after Semenyo was beyond the last Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, before placing the ball past Caoimhin Kelleher.

Slot made four changes to the Liverpool team that beat Milan in midweek. Alisson Becker was ruled out with a hamstring injury, with Kelleher introduced between the posts.

Andy Robertson, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were all selected, while Kostas Tsimikas, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota dropped to the bench. Summer signing Federico Chiesa was also named on the bench after making his debut as a substitute in Italy in midweek.

Liverpool eventually opened the scoring through Diaz midway through the first half, before the 27-year-old got his and the Reds' second of the game just a couple of minutes later. The strikes were the Colombia international's fourth and fifth goals of the season in the Premier League and the first since the brace against Manchester United at Old Trafford before the international break.
