Legendary Liverpudlian TV personality and DJ Craig Charles joined the orchestra on stage in the evening, and the crowd joined in singing Beatles classics including Hey Jude and All You Need is Love.

At 10.30pm, a fireworks display started, lighting up the Liverpool Waterfront to stunning effect as the Queen Anne departed.

In an indication of how immense the display was, one Twitter user said he "could hear the fireworks from Garston".
