In case ya didn’t know, Dancing With the Stars will sadly *not* be on our screens tonight at 8 p.m. EST—aka its usual Tuesday night time slot. 🥲
Instead, the ABC dance competition is hitting the pause button this week for a very special reason, which we’ll get into in a sec, but TL;DR: it’s for a hugely important/high-key patriotic cause. Enter: us, with absolutely everything you need to know about why Dancing With the Stars won’t be on this week, what will be replacing it, and when the hit show will resume on the network.
Kk, so why won’t Dancing With the Stars be on my screen tonight, October 1, 2024?
Essentially, programming has been paused tonight due to the vice presidential debate between Governor Tim Walz and Senator J.D. Vance. Despite the event being hosted by CBS and not ABC, it’s typically tradition that all major networks reschedule their programming to simulcast national happenings, which this very much is. The more ya know!

At 8 p.m. ET, the ABC News Special: Race for the White House will be broadcast and showcase a countdown to the debate. Then, at 9 p.m. ET, the event itself—which is set to be moderated by CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell and Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan—will be simulcasted.
When will Dancing With the Stars air again?
Luckily, fans can expect the show to kick right back where it left off next week c/o a double dose of Dancing With the Stars on both Monday, October 7 *and* Tuesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. ET!
As for what’s in store for the 11 remaining contestants? Well, a Soul Train-themed night on Monday (pssst: this will be a prerecorded episode so as to give the contestants enough time to rehearse new choreography for the following episode) and a Hair Metal Night on Tuesday.
That! Said!!! Because the Monday, October 7 episode is prerecorded, no voting will take place that night, meaning it’s unclear when exactly eliminations will occur...or whether there will be a double elimination in the near future. *cue le dramatic music*
