In 'building your hopes up then knocking them right back down again' news, Eamonn Holmes has revealed he has been approached to do Strictly Come Dancing – but he won't actually do it.

Speaking to OK! at the This Morning Live event over the weekend, the presenter said: "I have been asked to do it, but I'm not confident with my hips."

Co-host and wife Ruth Langsford added: "You're a lover, not a dancer."

Of the celebrities who do appear on the show, Eamonn said: "They're brilliant, absolutely brilliant (but) it's not for me."

So now that we can rule Eamonn out of the show, who is rumoured to appear on Strictly Come Dancing 2017?

Well, we've actually gathered a dozen of the names that have come up the most, and they include one of Britain's most controversial politicians, some Olympic and Paralympic stars, an X Factor alumnus and actual Mary Berry.

Maybe that's why Eamonn isn't keen on getting dancing shoes and fake tan on, because he knows that he's never going to win against the most treasured of national treasures (sorry, the Queen).

What we do know about this year's Strictly is that it will be the first series without Len Goodman – while dancing legend Shirley Ballas is not only joining the panel, but taking up the position of head judge.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in 2017.
