The Duchess of Sussex's 'divorce' makeover has all the makings of success

The Duchess of Sussex recently took to Instagram over video conference to catch up with Smart Works recipients, who've received career advice and clothing donations from the charity for which Meghan is a patron.

Dressed elegantly in white with a chic, over-one-shoulder ponytail, Meghan stunned followers on social media with her glowing skin and striking smoky eyes, yet another style triumph for the retired Royal.

In fact, the Duchess of Sussex looks as happy and confident as she did when we first fell in love with the Suits actress hack in 2017, when the palace announced Prince Harry's engagement to his now wife, Meghan Markle.

Indeed, now that Frogmore Cottage has been repaid and the ink is dry on her and Prince Harry's Netflix deal, the Duchess of Sussex is divorced from the Royal family and carving out a new life - and a fresh look - for her independent role as global social campaigner.

With all break-ups, a new look inevitably starts with new hair. Gone is the strict bun that became her signature hairstyle during her time as a Royal member and in its place is a long, flowing mane that has little structure. Indeed, while Meghan has always had long hair, now it's extra long, rebelliously long.

As her UK hairdresser, George Northwood told us back in July, 'she's making a statement with hair that long - it represents strength and a sense that she's really got everything sorted. This straighter, longer hairstyle marks a new chapter in her life without such strict protocols.'

Meghan's sweeping locks are not only a more natural and free way to wear her hair, the waist length style gives a signal that she's finally being herself, without constraints or restrictions. And when she does wear her hair off her face, it's tied back loosely in a humble middle parting, showing the world that she's just like the rest us.

Her recent style uniform of over-sized button-up shirts and slacks or jeans lends itself to a more natural make-up look, which signifies that she's comfortable in her own skin and isn't seeking outside approval.

Speaking out on protests against racism following the death of George Floyd, Meghan wore a white shirt with minimal make-up and an unfussy ponytail laid over one shoulder, a new signature hairstyle for the Duchess.

As a Royal, and in her previous job as a Hollywood actress, the Duchess of Sussex routinely opted for a full face of make-up focusing on sultry eyes and glossy nude lips. Whereas when she appeared on Good Morning America back in April, her make-up was refreshingly ordinary with a neutral palette and barely-there base that speaks to her newfound freedom and desire to connect with everyday people.

One is thing is for certain. When Harry and Meghan's highly anticipated Netflix show eventually airs, we aren't expecting a return to the strictly polished Duchess of Sussex, but more of the real, uncovered, natural-looking Meghan.
