By all accounts, Eddie Redmayne is a genuinely lovely man who illuminates warmth and kindness - so it's a bit surprising that the Academy Award winner has an intense hatred for Hollyoaks.

The Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald actor has been harboring a secret grudge against the Channel 4 soap for years, and not because they stole his baby or tried to blow him up Home Alone-style.

Redmayne revealed on The One Show on Friday night (January 12) that his feud with Hollyoaks all started with he was a lowly member of staff working the British Soap Awards years before his acting breakthrough.

"I was a waiter at the British Soap Awards," he recalled. "There's this bit where they get everyone really drunk… in order to then be a really lively audience.

"So, there were all these drunk actors and I was in charge of holding the tray where they put all of their empties. And the cast of Hollyoaks started piling extra ones on top and they all fell."

He then joked: "I've hated Hollyoaks ever since!"

There goes the likelihood of our Newt Scamander vs Grace Black fan fiction ever becoming a reality!

Although he's primarily known as a feature film star, Redmayne does have a bit of a secret soap past, having popped up on the BBC's Doctors years before he was meddling in the Wizarding World.

Hollyoaks continues on Monday (January 15) at 6.30pm on Channel, with a first-look screening airing at 7pm on E4. Eddie Redmayne definitely won't be watching.
