Why Gareth Bale was at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium for their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea
Gareth Bale was back at the Tottenham stadium for the first time under Ange Postecoglu and that coincided their their disappointing 4-1 defeat to sworn rivals Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino made a winning return to Tottenham with Chelsea as his former club were reduced to nine men on a night of chaos and controversy.
Tottenham and Real Madrid legend Gareth Bale was the star attraction and spoke to the fans at halftime with the game in the balance. He reminded fans of his time at the club and some of the life-changing moments he had before he record-move to Real Madrid.
Spurs had come into the game at the back of an unbeaten run but they left empty-handed following two sending off, first Cristian Romero for a tackle on Enzo Fernandez and the second the returning Destiny Udogie.
He was lucky to be on the field even in the first half but his second left the referee with little to do but send him and reduce the home side to nine men going into the game.
They also lost summer signing Micky van de Ven to a hamstring injury that meant they likely not be with their first-choice centre-back pairing when they travel to Wolves next weekend and possibly against Villa the week after that.
This will be a big test for a Spurs side that had so many things going their way in the first 10 games of the season but they will now have to re-group and try to fight back if they are to get their title challenge back.
