Why Manuel Ugarte can not play for Man United vs Liverpool ahead of deadline day transfer
Manchester United's impending new signing Manuel Ugarte will not be available to face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend. The Reds will lock horns with Erik ten Hag's team at Old Trafford on Sunday following the 2-0 win over Brentford last week.
United meanwhile, will look to return to winning ways after a late 2-1 defeat at Brighton. However, they will not be able to count on their new £42million signing.
United agreed an initial fee of £42.3million with Paris Saint-Germain for the midfielder, which will rise to £50.8m. He arrived in Manchester on Tuesday night and will finalise his move. As with all the players who join a new Premier League club, they must be registered by noon on Friday.
This has not happened with Ugarte and he will, therefore, miss the game against Liverpool. He has not played much football during pre-season and will need to get his fitness levels back up.
Ugarte was frozen out of Luis Enrique's squad earlier this summer after becoming surplus to requirements.
The transfer window will close at 11pm on Friday and so far Liverpool have signed Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa.
Slot meanwhile, confirmed during his press-conference on Friday that Chiesa would not be available for the game. "It's a bigger chance that he is not in the squad for Sunday than he is," he said.
"I'm excited, if we sign someone who can help us and improve the squad, of course you're excited to get him in. He works really hard on and off the pitch, he can score goals and is aggressive off the ball and he can play so many positions, an interesting signing.
"We will take care of him because he hasn't trained much but we have good performance staff to build him in the right way and we can see his quality in the near future."
