Why Mastermind isn't on tonight as BBC changes schedule
Fans of Mastermind will be left disappointed after the BBC quiz show was absent from screens for the second week running.
Following last week’s postponement, this week’s (September 9) instalment was also delayed, with the usual 7pm slot on BBC Two being reserved for the broadcaster’s highlights show – Today at the Test – of the third test cricket match between England and Sri Lanka.
The news was announced last week (September 3) via the official social media channels for the quiz show, with a post confirming that the series would return to screens as usual on September 16.

“Missed us last night? #Mastermind is taking a short break but we'll be back with four brand new specialist subjects on Monday 16th September at 7:30pm on #BBCTwo” read the post, with a fan writing: “Definitely missed it but glad it's only a short break!”
Though fans will have to wait another week for the next episode, they can get a sneak peak at the specialist subjects on display from the contestants, with the list including: the films of Martin Scorsese, American singer-songwriter Phil Ochs, costume designer Edith Head and historical figure Mary Tudor.
Mastermind is now hosted by Clive Myrie, with the BBC newsreader taking over from John Humphrys – who had hosted the show for 18 years – in 2021. Myrie, who joined the BBC in 1987, shared a statement upon his announcement in the role, declaring the opportunity as a “privilege.”

“Clive will be a superb host, witty, wise and with a wicked sense of humour, he's a consummate interrogator who also understands the fear involved when facing a barrage of questions in the spotlight,” added Kate Phillips, BBC's Director of Entertainment.
Mastermind returns at 7.30pm on September 16 on BBC Two.
