Why orange is this autumn's most important colour trend

Farrow & Ball
Farrow & Ball

As we start moving into the new season there is a particular colour that we keeping seeing used in homes that we can no longer ignore, and that colour is orange.

Even though this trend perhaps stems from the '90s revival currently sweeping across the fashion industry, the way to nail this trend is far from the '90s bright orange wallpapered room you might be visualising.

Instead, to make this colour modern and fresh think more tones of rust, terracotta and ochre mixed with deep berry tones, mustard and pale salmon pink.

To incorporate this trend in your home - and to add some cosiness - opt for textiles, mix and match colours in warm orangey tones with cooler blues and greys and layer varying textures together.

A rust orange hue is great colour for adding an accent colour to a room – not brave enough to start splashing the paint, go for ceramics, cushions or a piece of artwork as a more subtle way to introduce this trend to your home. We've popped together some of top picks currently on the market.
