Why Sergio Aguero was absent from Man City's squad to face Bournemouth

Sergio Aguero was left out of Manchester City’s clash with Bournemouth after the Argentine complained of discomfort following training.

It’s understood the issue is not considered serious, with Pep Guardiola opting not to risk the striker ahead of the busy festive schedule.

With Gabriel Jesus back to fitness following an adductor injury, it was felt City could afford to rest Aguero.

City face Watford on Tuesday as part of period of eight games in four weeks.

Guardiola has been boosted by the return of Bernardo Silva following a muscle strain and Ilkay Gundogan, who hurt his foot in last week’s win against West Ham.

Kevin de Bruyne is working his way back to fitness after a second knee ligament injury this season.

He is not expected to feature against Watford and faces a race to be in contention for Chelsea next weekend, but Guardiola confirmed the playmaker was nearing a return.
