Why isn't Strictly Come Dancing on this Saturday? Semi final date announced

There's a tricky clash of the titans playing out on BBC One as Strictly Come Dancing and the World Cup both reach the later stages of their competitions.

Strictly is the BBC's flagship entertainment show and usually would not move for any other programme, but with the World Cup breaking with tradition and playing in winter this time, it has caused some scheduling conundrums.

Here's when the Strictly semi final has been confirmed for, and when you can see the live episode and results show this week.

When is the Strictly 2022 semi final on TV?

The live show for the semi final takes place on Sunday this week, airing from 7.15pm on BBC One.

Viewers can watch the semi final results show, where they will find out which couples have made the final, on Monday, 12 December at 8.15pm on BBC One.

Why has Strictly been moved from Saturday?

World Cup fixtures mean that for a second week in a row, Strictly's live show has had to be moved.

BBC One will be airing the fourth quarter final match on Saturday night, bumping Strictly from its usual spot.

Moving Strictly will solve a dilemma for many viewers, as the quarter final that evening will see England playing to make it through to the semi final.

Last week, Strictly aired a day earlier than usual, giving couples a day less to prepare, but this week they will have had extra days of training available.

Competition favourites to win Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal have made it through to the semi final, as have their close rivals Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez.

Joining them in the semi final are Will Mellor and Nancy Xu, and Fleur East and Vito Coppola.

Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu also make it into the semi final, having knocked Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima out of the contest at the weekend.

When will the Strictly 2022 final be on TV?

It looks as though there will be no clash between the Strictly final and the World Cup final.

Strictly is due to air on Saturday, 17 December and would wrap up the entire final that evening as the results and winner are announced in the live show.

Meanwhile, the World Cup final is set to kick off on Sunday,. 18 December at 3pm.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Sunday at 7.15pm and on Monday, 12 December at 8.15pm, both on BBC One.
