If you live in the Fylde, you may have noticed a slew of new posters that have started appearing around its towns and villages.

The posters have been left by the campaign group Fylde Against Cable Transmission and Substations (FACTS). Two wind farms, dubbed the Morgan and Morecambe project, are being proposed which critics say will affect life in the area.

The wind farms are set to be located in the Irish Sea and will be linked by miles of cables to a substation in Penwortham. This cable corridor will cause the disruption, as it's thought to be 'wider than the M55' and will run through fields and residential areas, causing problems for homes and businesses in areas such as St Annes, Wrea Green, Kirkham, Freckleton and Newton.

Although residents are not opposed to the idea of green energy in theory, they are generally opposed to the disruption it's likely to cause.

In November, the Planning Inspectorate announced it has accepted an application to be examined for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to connect two planned wind farms in the Irish Sea to the national grid at Penwortham Substation.

The proposed development involves undersea cables landing near Blackpool Airport and running underground to two substations between Kirkham and Newton, before continuing underground and beneath the River Ribble to Penwortham.

FACTS posters have been spotted in Lytham Square, others in Witch Wood in Lytham, Squires Gate and in the village of Wrea Green, to name but a few.

They state: "BP and their partners are planning to bring cables from their wind farms on shore at Blackpool, ripping a 100m wide cable corridor 30km long across the WHOLE OF THE FYLDE, destroying more than 600 acres of greenbelt, farmland and natural habitats, including two massive substations. Industrialising 90 acres of greenbelt and separation land (that's almost 50 football pitches)."

Campaigners are urging residents across the Fylde to oppose the plans before the January 27 deadline.
