Yahoo News Wicked sets another impressive record with digital release
Wicked has set another impressive record during its first week of digital release.
The hit musical has achieved countless accolades at the box office, securing its place as the biggest Broadway adaptation of all time. After generating more than $600 million at the worldwide box office, Wicked was recently released on digital platforms and has broken yet another record after just one week.
According to Variety, the movie has raked in $26 million in its first day and $70 million in its first week of digital release in the US and Canada. These figures have earned Wicked the record for the largest first day and initial week of sales for any Universal theatrical title.

Wicked was released digitally on December 31, 2024 in the US and Canada, before making its way to the UK on January 3, 2025.
The streaming format comes with the sing-along version of the movie, as well as 10 deleted or extended scenes and a behind-the-scenes look at making Wicked.
If you'd prefer to own a physical copy of the musical, you can pre-order it on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD in the UK. There's also a 4K Steelbook, but it's currently sold out at Amazon, HMV and other retailers.

Despite being able to watch Wicked from the comfort of your own home, the movie also brought in another $10 million in the US in its eight weekend in cinemas.
Meanwhile, the second part of the adaptation, Wicked: For Good, is set to arrive in cinemas on November 21.
Wicked: For Good will see Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Ariana Grande (Glinda), Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible) and Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard) all reprising their roles.
Wicked is out now in cinemas, and is also available to buy or rent from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more in the UK.
