Wicked's Jonathan Bailey explains reason for Fiyero's blue eyes
Wicked star Jonathan Bailey has teased the reason why his character Fiyero has blue eyes in the movie.
Known for the role of Anthony on Netflix's Bridgerton, the brown-eyed Bailey is admittedly not a fan of wearing contact lenses for a role, but promises it'll be "worth it" once Wicked: Part 2 rolls into cinemas next year.
"The reason why we did that will become clear in the second film," he told CinemaBlend referring to his "winky blue" eyes in the movie.
"I think it'll be worth it," he added.

Bailey also referenced a lyric of Fiyero's duet with Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) 'As Long As You're Mine', saying that it might give away what happens to his character.
"There's a lyric in the duet, where [it goes] 'You've got me seeing through different eyes'," he said. "That might give you an indicator of what happens later. So there is a reason."

The lyrics Bailey cited are from a song in Act 2 of the musical in which Fiyero and Elphaba confess their love for each other.
Wicked: Part 1 includes a foreshadowing to Fiyero's fate in the song 'Dancing Through Life' which includes the lyrics, "Life's more painless for the brainless," whilst Elphaba also tells Fiyero to 'get stuffed' when they first meet.

All clues seem to point to the big revelation that Fiyero is none other than the Scarecrow.
In the musical, Act 2 picks up with Fiyero being appointed the Captain of the Guard and hunting for Elphaba. In reality, he's trying to locate her and help her escape, which he does, enraging the Wizard's guards who tie him up in a cornfield as retaliation.
From her castle, Elphaba casts a spell to keep Fiyero safe, but it backfires and he's turned into the Scarecrow who can't be harmed.
Wicked is out now in cinemas. Wicked: Part 2 is released in cinemas on November 21, 2025.
