Wickes has announced that it will be giving all of its staff an extra day of paid leave over the Christmas period for the first time as it prepares to close for three days over the holiday. The home improvement retailer pledged all colleagues would benefit from the additional day's wage, including at every branch and in the customer service department.

The retailer, which has stores in Stirchley, Hall Green, Handsworth and Perry Barr among others across the region, will shut on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year. The new benefit for staff is a yearly bonus so they can 'enjoy a well-earned break and spend some quality time with loved ones'.

All stores in England will open from 7am until 7pm on Monday, December 23 before reopening again on Friday, December 27, from 7am until 7pm. A three day closure has become an annual tradition for the business.

David Wood, chief executive officer at the business, said: "Here at Wickes, our Christmas closures have become a way to thank all our colleagues for their tremendous services throughout the year, showing them that all of their hard work definitely doesn't go unnoticed and is hugely appreciated."

Each branch of Wickes in England and Wales will then return to its regular hours until December 31 when it will open at 7am and close at 4pm. On January 1, 2025 it will operate from 10am until 4pm and then from 7am until 7pm on Thursday, January 2.
