Widow devastated after late husband's possessions destroyed in fire
A widow is said to be inconsolable after her late husband's possessions were destroyed in a fire. The blaze first started in a shed at the back of a house in Carnon Downs near Truro but spread to an adjacent garage.
Jonny Blenkin, who lives opposite the small cluster of houses where the fire took hold, said he was alerted to it by his son as he was doing a life-coaching session online which he had to reschedule. He said: "It was quite something. My son came in and interrupted my Zoom call telling me the neighbour's house was on fire.
"We went to have a look and the fire had spread along the power cables. We called 999 and the fire engines came round quite quickly. They were just brilliant."

The fire happened at 7pm on January 28 with crews from fire stations in Truro and Falmouth rushing to the scene. Jonny said all neighbours and pets were thankfully safe. He added: "I spoke to the lady who owns the house and she was in floods of tears. Someone said it was her late husband's belongings. She was inconsolable."
Jonny said there had been a few explosion-like bangs earlier in the evening which he thought might have been fireworks. He said that while firefighters were on their way, one neighbour tried to hose down the oil tank on their property.
"The firefighters were great. They went from house to house checking everything as there had been a power cut. They were just brilliant."
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire appliances from Truro and Falmouth were mobilised to a report of a shed fire. On arrival the crew confirmed there was a fire within a shed that had spread to an adjoining garage. Firefighters used six breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish the flames.
"Electrical wires were involved in the fire, and National Grid has been on scene fixing any power issues in the area."
