Wildfire Near Halifax Prompts Evacuation Orders

Evacuation orders were issued to around 1,000 residents of Porters Lake, Nova Scotia, on May 23 due to wildfire, officials said.

The fire was estimated to be 40 hectares in size but was growing, the Nova Scotia (NS) Department of Lands and Forestry said..

The agency said the fire started at around 12.30 pm on the north side of Highway 107, and jumped the highway a short time later. A portion of the highway was closed as firefighters responded.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency (HRFE) sent at least 10 trucks to respond to the blaze, while NS Lands and Forestry Department said ground crews and three helicopters were assisting. Credit: @Indoblue82 via Storyful
