Wildfire Smoke Darkens Sky Over New Mexico Town of Angel Fire

Wildfire smoke darkened skies over parts of northern New Mexico on Wednesday, May 11, as the Calf Canyon-Hermit Creek Fire continued to burn 24 days after being reported.

On Thursday, officials said the fire had burned through 260,000 acres and was 29-percent contained — down from the 33-percent containment reported a day prior. More than 1,800 personnel were assigned to the fire, they said.

Local media on Wednesday said the blaze was the second largest fire in the state’s history. Credit: @river_free_ via Storyful
