Wildfire Triggers Grand Teton Road Closures, Evacuation of Campers

Fires in and near Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks are affecting those visiting. The Berry Fire, burning in Grand Teton National Park around Jackson Lake, had burned 6,819 acres as of Wednesday, August 24. The fire has prompted the closing of roads leading into the park, though some closures were temporary, according to the National Park Service. Officials also evacuated about 50 campers inside the park on Tuesday.

Authorities warned people of smoke conditions in the northern part of the park, and that motorists should drive with care and use their headlights.

The Berry Fire has cut off the south entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The Maple Fire, burning inside the park on its western side, threatens the west entrance and its road. Officials said they do not believe the fire will jump the road, though contingency plans are being made. Credit: Facebook/Grand Teton National Park
