Speaking about the show, Will said: ‘As a fan of Strictly for years, I have always imagined myself on the show, but the timing has not been right, until now!’

‘Music is my passion and the dancing I have done has always been with a microphone in hand. Now there will be no microphone or band, just me, my partner and the dance floor.’

Before adding, ‘Strictly is a show with fantastic live music and has an ethos of positivity and growth.

‘I practice these two things every day, and I will try my hardest to be the best dancer possible.’

Earlier today, Will, 37, teased his fans on social media, tweeting: ‘Big news coming at 3pm - Can you guess?!’ (sic). Rumours began to surface last month that he had been approached to take part in the popular Saturday night show.

And, Will is no stranger to talent shows, he rose to fame after winning ITV’s Pop Idol in 2002, beating off stiff completion from Gareth Gates in the final and soon propelling his way to success.

But after 14 years in the limelight the singer was last week dropped by his record label, Island Records, after releasing just one album. According to an insider: ‘It is a surprising decision to let him go, given the album he released with them went straight to No1.’

Will signed his deal with Island in 2012 after leaving Sony RCA and topped the charts with his sixth studio album 85% Proof, last year.

It seems Strictly couldn’t have come at a better time for the star, and with his huge fan base, we are sure he will do very well on the show. Another Jay McGuiness, maybe?

The rumours are still rife about who will be joining Will and Ed in the ballroom, but we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out! Nick Grimshaw will be announcing the third celeb on his Radio One Breakfast Show tomorrow. (Wednesday 10th August).

This is too exciting!
