William and Kate like to see psychics

I would not have had Kate Middleton and Prince William down as the spiritual types. As senior members of the royal family, part and parcel of their role is to be straight-laced - but according to a recent article on the Duchess of Cambridge in Tatler's latest issue, the couple are actually kind of into psychics. Who'd have thought it?

In Tatler's 'Catherine the Great' feature, it describes how the couple "endearingly" follow in "the spirit of Diana" by consulting psychics.

"A medium who went to Kensington Palace to 'channel' for them found William to be 'open-hearted and lovely'. Kate, while scrupulously polite, was more 'shut-down'," reads the article. "Maybe she was merely going through the motions to appease her husband?" it goes on to speculate.

If you can get past all the Professor Trelawney-type stereotypes the idea of a psychic turning up to Kensington Palace might be giving you right now, it's actually kind of fascinating to imagine William and Kate in this set-up. Politely offering their clairvoyant tea out of one of their fine-bone china cups, as she charismatically reels off what the future holds.

Of course this quote - like every other one in the Tatler article - has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Kensington Palace, on behalf of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, rarely respond to newspaper or magazine reports, but on this occasion they released a statement rubbishing much of the content.

"This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication," it reads.

So yeah, a pretty bold undoing of the article, although Tatler maintains the integrity of article and says they were in contact with the palace in regards to running the story. Because Kensington Palace's statement doesn't specify which parts it believes to be inaccurate and false, we can't say for certain whether the couple's apparent consultation with psychics is one of the apparent mistruths.

Until then, we can just enjoy the notion that William and Kate might have known donkeys years ago that they'd end up with three adorable children - a girl and two boys - and that they'd be spending the first half of 2020 predominantly on Zoom calls while a pandemic raged outside.
