From Town & Country

THE PROPERTY: Dating from 1690 and set within extensive parkland and gardens, Cholderton House is named in the Pevsner Architectural Guides as a property of interest. While retaining historic features such as fine chimneypieces and working fireplaces, polished oak floors, stepped ceiling cornices, and dado and raised panelling, the property has undergone extensive restoration and modernisation. It now has nine bedrooms, five bathrooms and five drawing-rooms, and comes with two cottages, extensive equestrian facilities, and a six-stable coach house complete with treatment rooms.

THE LOCATION: Cholderton House is situated at the edge of the village of Cholderton, approximately 11-and-a-half miles north-east of the cathedral city of Salisbury. Cholderton offers excellent communication links to Salisbury, London and the south-west via the A303 to the north or the M3 to the east. Commuters can reach London Waterloo via train from Grateley (approximately three miles away) in 80 minutes, and for frequent flyers, Southampton airport is only a short drive away.

THE INTERIOR: An imposing porch with an arched oak door leads into the large and welcoming reception hall. The kitchen/breakfast room, designed by Guild Anderson, is at the heart of the house, complemented by marble worktops and a limestone floor, and retains its original arched-oak hearth. There is a delightful trio of reception-rooms, and the dining room is graciously appointed with a fine marble chimney piece and fluted pilasters. A large conservatory, with colourful stained-glass windows and a tiled floor, opens onto a flagstone terrace.
