William Osula's brilliant reaction to fan chant and confidence in filling in for Alexander Isak
Newcastle United's Danish youngster William Osula believes he is capable of stepping in for injured striker Alexander Isak if called upon.
The £15million signing from Sheffield United had three chances to score against Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup but marked his full competitive debut without a goal. However, he believes that Howe can trust him to be the central striker in his side against Everton in a move that would allow United to restore Anthony Gordon to his preferred role out wide.
When asked if he was ready to start in the top-flight, the 21-year-old told Chronicle Live: "I’m always ready. I’m ready now.

"I’m always ready to work hard and do my best for the team here so whenever I’m called upon I’m ready to give my all Hopefully Everton is an opportunity."
Osula - who had his name chanted by fans throughout the narrow win over the Dons - was also enthusiastic about the prospect of filling in for £63million Isak. He told me: "It’s not me to say, that’s for the gaffer. "He’s going to pick the team that will play so whatever role I have to play here I look forward to it and just take my opportunity and chance when they come.
“Football is about patience. Everything doesn’t come straight away in life so I’ll have to work hard and eventually, my time will come. Every player wants to play more and get more minutes, hopefully, that will come in the future."
"It’s just about being patient you know. Eventually, you’ll get your chance and when it comes you just have to do your best to take it. We got the win and got through to the next round, that’s the most important thing."
Despite not getting off the mark on Carabao Cup night, Osula was buzzing after being handed a start against the fourth tier side. Looking back on last night, Osula said: “It's amazing. I am very happy, very grateful for the opportunity from the gaffer, staff and all my team-mates.
"Very happy to have made my first full start, it’s an amazing feeling and very good to be through to the next round."
Osula also offered insight on working with England international Callum Wilson and Sweden star Isak on a weekly basis. The striker reflected: "It’s great these are top players and I’m still young and can always learn and get better from everyone in the squad. Eddie Howe has already helped me improve already and I’m hopeful for more."
The Toon Army quickly fashioned a terrace ditty to make Osula feel at home after his £15m move from Sheff United.
Singing Osula's name to the hit to Terrorvision's 90s hit Tequila, the catchy chant was heard during the drab 1-0 win over Wimbledon. Speaking after the game, Osula said: "Yeah, it was very important. All the fans were there singing. It was a great feeling and atmosphere. I loved it."
