Hull KR youngster Phoenix Laulu-Togaga'e has signed a new deal with the club, but has headed straight back out on loan. The young playermaker has inked an extension to his contract to keep him at Craven Park, but will continue his playing development in the Championship after signing a deal to remain with Oldham next year.

Nicknamed PLT, he returns to the Roughyeds after playing a major role in their League 1 title-winning campaign, scoring 15 tries in 18 games to be crowned the competition's young player of the year.

He will now play in the second-tier next year, with Robins head coach Willie Peters tasking him with showing that he can stand out at that level like he had this year.

"We’re pleased that Phoenix has signed a new one-year deal with the club," Peters said. "Phoenix has made strong progress at Oldham this year and was rewarded with the League Young Player of the Year award. The award was well earned and it shows Phoenix is ready for the next step in his journey.

"Now it’s about Phoenix proving himself in a competitive Championship competition next season with Oldham and furthering his development with the aim of becoming a Super League player."

Laulu-Togaga'e added: "I'm very happy to be playing on with Oldham.

It was a really good year last year, not just because we had loads of success but because of how close-knit we were as a group. They welcomed me in straight away which made it a lot easier for me to make the adjustment into a new team.

"Next season will help my development massively. The Championship is an extremely hard comp, the jump in levels is going to be big and I need to match that. Playing at a high level is going to improve my game and all I want to do is develop and get better so I can eventually be a Super League regular."
