Annabel Croft has sparked a demand from some Wimbledon fans for her to get a 'promotion' and be the main presenter of the BBC's coverage of the famous tournament, having first been identified as the 'ideal replacement' for Sue Barker two years ago.

There was widespread shock and upset, when after anchoring broadcasts from SW19 for decades, popular host Sue announced she was stepping down from the high profile and, after much speculation, it was revealed that her BBC colleague Clare Balding would be the one to pick up the baton.

Clare, who has fronted major sporting events like the Grand National in the Olympics over the years, made her debut as Sue's successor last year, with viewers quick to give their opinions, with some arguing that she wasn't on screen enough, as others questioned whether she was the right person for the job. Former British tennis pro Annabel saw her name came up then as someone who could be more suited to the role and, after she stole the hearts of the nation on Strictly last year. Annabel has been back working for the BBC at Wimbledon 2024.
