Winds Whip Up Sand in Matagorda as Tropical Storm Nicholas Nears Texas

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of a “life-threatening storm surge” for Texas as the Lone Star State prepared for Tropical Storm Nicholas to make landfall on September 13.

This footage by Chad Casey shows powerful winds sweeping up sand on Matagorda Beach, offering a glimpse of the conditions faced by those along the Texas coast.

“[Tropical Storm] Nicholas is expected to make landfall tonight as a strong tropical storm with life-threatening storm surge, near hurricane force winds, isolated tornadoes, and significant heavy rain,” the NWS said. “Catastrophic urban and flash flooding is possible in the High Risk area.”
