A new wine bar is set to open in St Paul's next month. Carmen Street Wine will be the new venture from the team behind Caper and Cure, a popular restaurant in Stokes Croft, which was recently named among the Good Food Guide's 100 Best Local Restaurants for 2024.

The new wine bar will, in fact, open up shop on an entirely new street - Carmen Beckford Street - near the Carriage Works development. The street sits just off Ashley Road in St Paul's and is named after Carmen Beckford, midwife, the first race relations officer in Bristol, one of the founders of St Paul's Carnival, and the first Black recipient of an MBE in the South West.

According to its Instagram profile, Carmen Street Wine will be not only a wine bar, but will also offer events and private dining. Though a definitive opening date has not yet been confirmed, the page states Carmen Street Wine will open 'mid October'.

Over on the Caper and Cure account, the team posted the following message on Tuesday, September 17: "We can finally share the plans that our new little bar will be opening next month! It’s been on the cards for sometime, but the recently created Carmen Beckford Street, which leads to The Carriageworks development (right behind the restaurant), will be home to Carmen Street Wine.

"There’s still a little way to go, but when we’re fully up and running, please come and see us for lunches, wines, oysters, Guinness and bottles to purchase and take away. Carmen Street Wine can seat up to 24 and can be hired for dinner parties and events - and of course, with the same top quality food and service you’ll find @caperandcure.

"Follow us @carmenstreet.wine to watch the story unfold, and be the first to hear about some exciting giveaways we have coming up! Any enquires for bookings - please send to events@caperandcure.co.uk."

Taking to the comments section, fellow local cafes, restaurants and bars were quick to be among those sharing in the excitement of the new opening. The team at Bokman shared three fire emojis, while The Crafty Egg team wrote: "Woop Woop" and Little Hollows Pasta shared the love with a raised hands and heart emoji.

Others called it "exciting news" with another adding: "Sounds perfect - Guinness and oysters!"
