With over 20,000 images submitted by photographers from 142 countries, the judges at this year's Travel Photographer of the Year Awards had a tough job.

But they have managed to whittle down the thousands of submissions to their favourite travel photos of the year - and the results are stunning.

The top prize and title of Travel Photographer of the Year for 2018 was taken by Stefano Pensotti, a semi-professional photographer from Italy who submitted a portfolio of eight images showcasing life around the globe.

The title of Young Travel Photographer of the Year for 2018 was awarded to 14-year-old Isabella Smith from the US. Her colourful portfolio included images taken of everyday life in Chefchaouen, Morocco.

Other categories included Faces, People, Cultures, Natural World, Hot/Cold, New Talent and Travel which all received impressive entries.

The Travel Photographer of the Year Awards were founded in 2003 and each year they accept images from amateur, semi-pro and professional photographers. So far their oldest entrant has been 88-years-old and the youngest just five.
