Winter Storm in Northern Utah Complicates Travel

Heavy snow fell over parts of northern Utah on Tuesday morning, January 5, causing difficult winter driving conditions along the Wasatch and Uinta mountains, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported.

Footage shows Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) snowplows moving snow in the Cottonwood Canyons area on Tuesday morning. Officials advised driving with caution on the “slick” roads.

The traction law, which mandates appropriate traction devices or snow tires to drive in the Cottonwood Canyons during snow events, was in effect.

“Thank you for keeping us safe! The ski industry jobs provide security for many families and these roads are their lifeline,” Utah state senator Kathleen Riebe tweeted. Credit: UDOT Cottonwood Canyons via Storyful
