Winter sun destinations you can visit direct from Newquay Airport
Blue Monday - the most depressing day of the year according to some - has come, and as the dark nights continue, and the cold weather remains, many are looking for a short escape to warmer climates.
Whilst small, Newquay Airport offers some great options, and just a two-hour drive to Exeter Airport opens up even more destinations this winter.
Direct from Newquay you can fly to Alicante with Ryanair. Located on the Costa Blanca, Alicante offers beautiful Mediterranean beaches and a range of resorts to choose from.

Alicante Airport is also a short distance away from Benidorm, and with plenty of transport links its easy to travel to, giving you a great selection to choose how you spend your holiday..
In the winter months, the temperature averages around 17 degrees, roughly ten degrees warmer than the current weather in Cornwall, and it can reach highs of 21 if you're lucky.
There's also a rich history on offer for you to explore, as well as delicious Spanish food to try.
Slightly further south, you can also fly direct to Málaga, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. It's a diverse and historic port city, where you can choose either a city break or a beach holiday, depending on your preferences. It lies on the Costa del Sol of the Mediterranean and is a tourist hotspot.
Similarly to Alicante, the average temperature in January is 17 degrees, but previous tourists have said they sometimes had weather in the mid-twenties during the winter.
If you travel to Exeter Airport, there are a few more destinations available.
There are direct flights available to Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, both of which see temperatures up to 23 degrees in January, with the sun setting at roughly 6.30pm this month, almost two hours later than the sunset in Cornwall.
Or, if winter sports are more your thing, you can fly to Chambéry, France. With an average flight time of 1 hour 45, this French town in the Rhone Alps region gives you the opportunity to try every winter sport, whether it be skiing, snowboarding, hiking, or maybe you simply want to enjoy the Alpine landscape.
Just a short journey away from the main town are many popular ski stations such as Courchevel in Les Trois Vallées, Méribel, and Val Thorens.
