A wish list of additions have been revealed for Nuneaton park set for £200k make-over. Some of the £4,028,173 UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) given to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is being spent on upgrading local parks.

One of them is Sorrell Road park, which has not been upgraded since 2006.A concept masterplan was previously revealed for the park but the council launched a public consultation to find out what local residents wanted to see in the park.

The consultation is now over and the council says it has taken these views on board including who uses the park, the frequency of use, and the types of activities it is used for.

The council says it will now put together a refurbishment plan to address the main issues highlighted and included in the plan are:

  • New young children’s play area

  • New older children’s play equipment

  • Outdoor fitness equipment

  • More benches and bins

  • New paths and entrances

  • Line marking to ball court

The improvements are set to cost around £200,000, with £100,000 coming from a local partner HTC Big Local. A spokesperson for HTC Big Local said: "HTC Big Local is a resident-led initiative, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, where it has seen over £1m invested in Hill Top and Caldwell over the last 10 years.

"Its main aims are that communities can make a difference to the needs it prioritises and makes the area an even better place to live.

“The HTC Partnership has consulted residents, who told us they wanted to see activities for young people be a priority, and by investing £100,000 to rejuvenate the park at Sorrell Road, this is what this project will help to achieve.

"The partnership is really pleased to see this project come to fruition for the local community, and it is a great legacy for Big Local."

Councillor Tim Jenkins, cabinet member for leisure, communities and health, at the Town Hall, added: "We would like to thank all residents who completed the online consultation questionnaire and came to the consultation event.

"We appreciate the time taken to comment on the refurbishment of what will be a vastly improved local park."

The Hill Top-based park is one of several to be given a make-over including Marlborough Road recreation ground.
