Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson hosted national charity Breast Cancer Now in the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage Scots to support the ‘wear it pink’ fundraiser.

The charity’s annual ‘wear it pink’ initiative, which will take place on Friday, October 18, is to raise funds for world-class breast cancer research and life-changing support.

Ms Adamson was honoured to host Breast Cancer Now in Parliament as she was joined by MSPs from across the political spectrum, including First Minister John Swinney.

Ms Adamson is urging Motherwell and Wishaw constituents as well as thousands of others across Scotland to sign up and take part in wear it pink which takes place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

She said: “This was a bittersweet day in Parliament. We heard from some incredible campaigners with personal testimony from their own experiences with breast cancer.

“My dear friend and colleague Christina McKelvie MSP, who has been a champion of the wear it pink fundraiser for over decade, was originally due to host Breast Cancer Now in Holyrood.

“Christina is facing her own difficulties with breast cancer and everyone in the Scottish Parliament is sending her love and support. She was at the forefront of our minds.

“It is an awful circumstance to host an event but I know that Christina will be lifted by the incredible response from across the Parliament. MSPs got involved with some fabulous pink hats, fetching scarves, and silly glasses; it was great fun for a brilliant cause.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. Hearing that diagnosis, and the anxiety around it, changes people’s lives. That is why ensuring the right support is in place is essential.

“Anyone can take part in wear it pink, whether at school, work or at home. Just wear something pink, or hold a pink themed event, and donate to Breast Cancer Now to help the charity achieve its vision that by 2050 everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well.

“I want to thank Breast Cancer Now for their work and the bravery of the campaigners who have dedicated themselves to improving outcomes for the people and families impacted by breast cancer.

“Please get involved in whatever you can to help contribute to crucial research and support. And have some fun with it! We are raising awareness of an important issue but we are spreading joy too.”
