Netflix is weeks away from unveiling its big new adaptation of the beloved book and video game series, early reviews of which are heaping praise upon the “perfect” battle sequences.
Cavill, who stars in the show as Geralt of Rivia – the main character who hunts monsters in a world known as The Continent – has now said he performed all of his own stunts.
“On this, I didn’t use a stuntman at all,” he told US talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel.
“It’s really important that the character exists within the action as well rather than just an acting scene, and then you have an action scene that is completely separate. It’s really important that the story and the character travel through all of those things.”
One review of the show claimed the battle scenes outdo the ones featured in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
“The first fight Geralt gets into is beautifully savage,” a viewer wrote on Twitter, adding: “The blend of swordplay and Geralt’s signs is perfection... I’ve watched this fight scene four times already. You’re in for a treat.”
The Witcher sees Geralt team up with a powerful sorceress and young princess – played by Anya Chalotra and Freya Allen, respectively – to battle inter-dimensional demons.
The show will be available to stream on Netflix from 20 December, with the streaming service recently making a big announcement about the future of the show.
