Wollaton Hall and Deer Park has been closed due to overnight snow. Snow fell across Nottinghamshire on Monday (November 18), with disruption on Tuesday including the closure of some schools and delays to bus and trains.

Wollaton Hall has now confirmed that it has closed whilst it assesses the impact of the weather. Newstead Abbey has also made the decision to close.

Both attractions said: "We are assessing the park area before we open to the public and will update you here as soon as the site is open for visitors." Other sites run by Nottingham City Council include Nottingham Castle, though that site has not announced any closure.

The city council confirmed its gritting teams were out on Monday, with seven 17-tonne trucks, 3,000 tonnes of grit and 200 grit bins on standby. The authority grits 445km of Nottingham's roads every night through the winter, with the busiest roads gritted first.

No further snow is forecast across Nottinghamshire for Tuesday, though severe frost and freezing temperatures are predicted overnight. Newstead Abbey would usually be open between 10am and 4pm, whilst Wollaton Hall would be open from 9am until 4pm.

UPDATE 11.40am: Both Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey have now reopened, with both sites explaining that "thorough inspections" were required before opening. Both venues said in an update at 10.40am: "Thank you for your patience as our teams worked to address issues across the site.

"Heavy snowfall posed safety concerns with fallen trees & branches, and from mature oaks that had not shed their leaves. The site required thorough inspections and clearing before reopening. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
