Wolverhampton crash: Man arrested after two young brothers killed in hit and run

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two young brothers were killed in a hit and run crash in Wolverhampton. The 23-year-old, who has not been named, was detained on Sunday, police said.

Ten-year-old Sanjay Singh and his younger brother Pawanveer, aged just 23 months, both died when an Audi S3 ploughed into the family’s BMW in the city’s Birmingham New Road area last week.

"This afternoon's arrest is a significant development, but the investigation is continuing and we still have lots of lines of enquiry to pursue," said detective sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police.

"We would appeal to the public to keep contacting us with any information."

He added: "Pawanveer and Sanjay's family have been informed of this afternoon's development, and we continue to support them through this terrible period."

The brothers were with their mother in the family's BMW when an Audi S3 crashed into them.

The driver of the Audi fled on foot before both brothers were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 31-year-old man from a third car, a Bentley, was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released pending further investigation.
