Wolves sweat over the fitness of key trio for crunch Newcastle United clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers are sweating over the fitness of three key players ahead of Sunday's encounter with Newcastle United. Mario Lemina, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Yerson Mosquera are big doubts for the Premier League match.

The trio face late fitness tests, having recently returned to training following various injury and fitness issues. When asked to provide an injury update on his squad, boss Gary O’Neil said: “Everyone is OK and in a decent spot. Mario and Rayan haven’t trained much and there will be late checks on them. Yerson had cramp in both calves and didn’t train fully, but there’s no injury.”

O'Neil has challenged his Wanderers squad to ‘get stuck in’ following a tricky opening run of fixtures. Wolves have faced Arsenal, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest in their opening three matches.

“We have an incredibly tough run of fixtures – we have to get stuck in, not many people outside of Wolves will give us much chance in any of them," said O'Neil.

“But I’m excited by that and getting to work with the group again and put any talks of comings and goings away till January, and really ready to fight with the group to put as many points on the board.

“Subs-wise it’s been much easier. It was tough last season. Every time you put someone on you basically had to change the shape, this season most of the subs I’ve made have been able to be like for like.

“We definitely have more depth and I’m excited, really pleased the window is done and the first international break is out of the way.”

Eddie Howe's Newcastle side head into the clash looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches. Defender Fabian Schar is line for a recall after completing a three-match suspension.
