Wolves will bring Goncalo Guedes in for a medical on Monday after agreeing a fee to sign the Valencia forward, it has been revealed.

Portuguese winger Guedes looks all set to join Wolves two years ahead of the end of his contract with Valencia. The La Liga side have been needing to raise funds this summer and now Wolves are taking advantage.

Bruno Lage has required further depth in the attacking regions of his Wolves squad. Last season, they were the lowest scorers outside the relegation zone of the Premier League, despite finishing 10th in the table.

Transfer activity has been fairly quiet since, though. Their only new face for the first team, aside from keeping Hwang Hee-chan on a permanent basis, has been centre-back Nathan Collins.

Soon, though, Lage looks likely to be welcoming another new recruit. After reports in Spain, the Telegraph‘s John Percy has confirmed Wolves have reached an agreement to sign Guedes.

The deal is said to be worth £27.5million, while personal terms are “all sorted” as well. There is a “total agreement” on the move, allowing the Portugal international to arrive for a medical on Monday.

He would become the latest Gestifute client to sign up at Molineux. Jorge Mendes has already placed players like Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto, Jose Sa and many more in Wolverhampton.

Now, another Portuguese player is on the verge of joining the ranks. As Percy notes, he was targeted for a long time by compatriot Lage.

Guedes, 25, came through the ranks at Benfica before a big move to Paris Saint-Germain did not quite work out. Since September 2017, he has been with Valencia.

His record for the Spanish club reads 177 appearances, 36 goals and 30 assists. Soon, he will be starting afresh with Wolves, getting his first taste of Premier League football in the process.

Goncalo Guedes can be a statement signing for Wolves

Guedes will be a high-profile signing for a Wolves side who showed ambition last season before falling short. Extra creativity could help bring out more from the likes of Hwang and Raul Jimenez.

And Guedes is not shy of scoring himself, having notched 13 between La Liga and the Copa Del Rey last season. It was the most prolific return of his career so far.

Hence, Wolves will be getting an in-form player, who at the age of 25 would be joining them as his prime years approach.

For Wolves to attract a player who previously attracted fairly frequent links with clubs like Manchester United will be beneficial in their attempts to bridge the gap with the sides above them.

And a fee of £27.5m certainly seems reasonable for Guedes, who has Champions League experience. Wolves have only ever spent bigger on three players, but he could well be worth it.
