Woman, 24, critical in hospital after being knocked down in suspected drink-drive hit-and-run in south London

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a woman was knocked down in a hit-and-run in south London.

Scotland Yard said the woman was struck by a car as she was walking on High Street in Colliers Wood just after 3.30am on Sunday.

The 24-year-old remains in a critical but stable condition.

Officers said the driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, but was arrested a short time later.

In a statement, police said: “Police were called at approximately 03:40hrs on Sunday, 16 June to reports of a car in collision with a pedestrian on High Street in Colliers Wood.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended."

They added: “The driver failed to stop at the scene but was arrested a short time later on suspicion of drink-driving. He has been taken to a police station where he remains in custody."
