An 83-year-old woman has died following a crash involving two cars.

On Thursday at about 10.55am, a black Seat Altea and a grey Honda CRV crashed on the A7 at Galashiels in the Scottish Borders.

The driver of the Honda, a 78-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital, alongside three passengers, two women aged 75 and 46, and a 15-year-old boy.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed and re-opened at about 3pm.

Police Scotland have launched a public appeal to help with their investigation.

Sergeant Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. In addition if you have dashcam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact us.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1233 of Thursday October 31.
