Woman and 4 men arrested over fight at Hougang coffeeshop on National Day
SINGAPORE — Four men and one woman, aged between 52 and 65, have been arrested over a fight that broke out at a coffeeshop in Hougang on National Day (9 August).
Police said in a news release on Thursday (13 August) that they were alerted to a fight at a coffeeshop along Hougang Avenue 8.
Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, Ang Mo Kio Police Division officers were able to establish the suspects’ identities and arrested them on Tuesday. “Preliminary investigations revealed that two groups of patrons had a prior dispute while at the coffeeshop,” said the police.
In a 49-second video of the incident posted on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page, a group of people can be seen shouting and fighting outside a closed coffeeshop. The sound of breaking glass can be heard amid the commotion, while one man in a black t-shirt is seen swinging a plastic chair at another.
Investigations into the case are ongoing. If convicted of affray, each faces a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
